Residents of Northville Township, the Village of Somonauk and Precinct 1 of Somonauk Township may apply for a library card. Proof of residency is required. Materials may be checked out upon completion of the application.
Children, ages 5 through 18, need the signature of a parent or guardian on their application; parents are responsible for materials checked out on their children's cards.
For those who live outside the district the non-resident fee is $176.00 per year, for use at all libraries in the Reaching Across Illinois Library System.

- New books, all other books and paperbacks are loaned for two weeks
- Magazines may be checked out for one week; the current issue of each magazine does not circulate.
- Books on CD and Playaways have a two-week check out.
- DVDs have a one-week rental period. Children under 13 may check out DVDs only with a parent present
- Patrons may renew books if there are no fines or no reserves.
- Vacation loans may be arranged.
- There is no limit to the number of items a patron may borrow.
The charge for overdue books, magazines and audiobooks is $.10 per day. DVD's are $1.00 per day.
Maximum fines for all materials is $10.00
Visually Handicapped or Homebound
Inquire at the desk for large print books, talking book service and shut-in delivery service.
Donations are accepted for the purchase of materials in memory of, or in honor of an individual or organization. A bookplate is placed in the book and acknowledgement is sent to the donor, the person honored or family of the deceased. Inquiries should be made to the Library Director.
Local cemetery records and plots, marriage and death records, The Somonauk Reveille on microfilm, and much more. A microfilm reader-printer is available for making copies.

Computers are available for public use for the internet and for word processing. Infotrac, a magazine database as well as several other reference products are available for public and student use. Please inquire at the front desk for more information.
Materials not in the library's collection can be requested for you through interlibrary loan from the Reaching Across Illinois Library System. You must have a valid library card. Please inquire at the desk.
Curbside Pick-up Service
When the weather is bad, you're short on time or have the little ones all buckled in, there's no need to leave your car to pick up your holds! The Somonauk Library is happy to announce our new curbside pick-up service. To use this service you must call the library ahead of time with your library card number, we will let you know when your items will be ready for pickup. You will have to make a second phone call to tell us you are here, then we will bring your item to you. Just call the library for more details.
The library welcomes suggestions of books for possible purchase. Please make inquiries to the Library Director.
The library has wireless internet avaliable to all visitors.
