Library Information

Board of Library Trustees: The Board consists of seven non-paid members elected to four-year terms.

Communities Served: The Somonauk Public Library District serves the Village of Somonauk, Precinct 1 of Somonauk Township and all of Northville Township in LaSalle County.

Population: According to the 2000 census, the library district population is 8,401.

Facilities: The current building provides about 2,200 square feet of library space.

Library Hours:
10:00 A.M. to 8:00 P.M. - Monday and Thursday
10:00 A.M. to 6:00 P.M. - Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday
10:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. -Saturday
Closed - Sunday (Sunday Hours Being Considered in the New
Library)

Registered Borrowers: 4,531 residents have library cards

Library Usage: The library loans out about 46,487 items per year or 3,874 a month. The library loans 48% to adults, and 52% is checked out to children and teens.

Staff: The Library is staffed by one full-time and five part-time employees.

Collection: The Library has a collection of 20,203 books and a collection of 1,760 audio and visual materials, which includes books on tape, compact discs, videos and DVD’s. The Library subscribes to 6 newspapers and 124 periodicals. The library’s homepage: www.somonauklibrary.org provides access to a wealth of online information. In addition, the Library provides access to online resources for patron use in the Library.

Budget: The appropriations budget for the 2005-06 fiscal year is $364,620, which includes $150,000 for capital expenditures. Last year the Library had $245,355 of expenses. The Library normally receives about 87% of its revenue from property taxes and 13% from other sources such as fees, fines, interest, and grants. (Source: 2004 Annual Financial Statement)
