Our Mission

The mission of the Somonauk Public Library District is to provide a qualified staff and a collection of materials that will help residents of the Somonauk Library service area meet their informational, educational, and recreational needs.

Special emphasis is placed on the following:

1. Current topics and titles - The library strives to provide high demand, high interest material in a variety of formats for persons of all ages.

2. Information - The library strives to supply timely and useful information by maintaining, in both print and electronic forms, a core reference collection, a circulating nonfiction collection, and a local history collection. The library provides access to the Internet, assists patrons with its use, and maintains lists of recommended sites relevant to community needs.

3. Lifelong learning - The library strives to meet the need of all community members for self-directed personal growth and development. The library believes Lifelong Learning begins at an early age and encourages young people to develop an interest in reading and learning that will last a lifetime. The library provides children's programming throughout the year.
